DELIGHTFUL MEMPHIS EXTENDS GOOD YEAR IN USA

Former smart Overport Lodge mare Delightful Memphis extended her North American earnings for the year to just over $US140,000 last weekend.

Racing as Delightfulmemphisn, she made the most of the ace draw in a $29,000 fillies and mares pace at Yonkers Raceway, New York, on June 21, leading throughout to score in 1:52.4 (fifths).

Delightfulmemphisn, racing for the Richard “Nifty” Norman stable and driven by Jason Bartlett, held by half a length for her sixth win in 17 starts for the year.

The daughter of Bettor’s Delight and Memphis Melody has a best of 1:51.2 (fifths) at the Meadowlands.

She returns to Yonkers for a $46,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap this Friday (North American time).

Delightfulmemphisn starts from the six gate this week, where her rivals include other ex-Canterbury mares, Shezza Gnp (barrier one) and Bettor Joy (barrier eight).

She formerly won 11 races in Australasia and over $300,000 for the Mark Jones stable.

Meanwhile, her two-year-old sister Stylish Memphis ended her two-year-old racing with a fifth to Sweet On Me in the $150,000 Harness Jewels 2YO Diamond at Addington on June 1.

Stylish Memphis showed good promise from just three starts in her debut term.

She ran second to Spellbound in the Group Three Caduceus Club Of Southland/Alabar Fillies Classic at Invercargill in March, then won a Winton mile in May in 1:58.7.
