CUP DAY COUNTDOWN – ONLY 69 DAYS TO GO

DRESS TO IMPRESS

On Friday 28 September we are delighted to announce we will be hosting a luncheon in our Silks Lounge at Addington Raceway and Events Centre. This event will be the ultimate style guide to dressing for Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup Day, Tuesday 13 November 2012. Stephanie Rumble of Flair Image and Fraser Bremford from Working Style will guide the attendees through the latest Race Day trends, discuss Race Day outfits that will be modelled and provide some insight in to the Best Dressed Competition for 2012. There will also be a question and answer session with the audience.

Leading Womenswear and Menswear suppliers from around Canterbury will each showcase a complete race day outfit, Stephanie and Fraser will talk you through the details of each outfit and why it works. The suppliers will also have ‘pop up shops’ showing off other fabulous items from their Spring Collections. There will also be other gorgeous displays and discussions from Canterbury’s leading Milliners, Make-up Artists and Hairdressers – this event could be your one stop shop for Cup Day 2012.

For those who are considering entering the Best Dressed at Addington Competition this luncheon will also give you some insight into what our judging panel will be looking for in a Best Dressed Lady or Man.

This is an event not to be missed – whether you are dressing to impress or dressing to win on Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup Day.
Tickets $55 – which includes sumptuous 2 course lunch, drink on arrival and Cup Week 2012 Pin. The Cup Week Pin is part of “Pin & Win” which sees a contribution of each pin sale going to Ronald McDonald House and gives the pin holder an entry into the draw to win a 2012 Ford Fiesta on Cup Day.
Attendees will also receive a goody bag and there will be spot prizes given away on the day.

Addington Raceway and Events Centre and The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club are pleased to announce Stallion owners, Muscara Standardbreds of Philadelphia, USA are the new sponsor of the New Zealand Derby Group One $150,000 Race.

Addington are delighted to have the Muscara Standardbreds, made up of leviathan North American owner Joseph Muscara and his three sons Joseph, Robert and Mark who currently have three high profile stallions available at Alabar Stud in New Zealand associated with this iconic 3YO pacers race held at Addington on Friday, 5 April 2013.”

These stallions are headed by champion sire Mach Three – appropriately the sire of the 2012 New Zealand Derby winner, Fly Like An Eagle.

Alabar NZ General Manager, Graeme Henley is also delighted with the sponsorship announcement.
“With the evolution of our breeding industry, many of the leading sires in New Zealand and Australia are now owned in North America – a lot of the service fees paid by our breeders go off-shore. It’s wonderful news for harness racing in this country that one of the major recipients of this money is prepared to show its support for our industry and give back by way of such a significant sponsorship.”

NZMTC BOARD MEMBER JOHN MCDERMOTT SET TO DRIVE IN THE USA

The North American Amateur Drivers Association will host four Amateur drivers from New Zealand in a series of races against NAADA members in a driving competition to be held at three racetracks in the Northeast.

Races in the competition –dubbed the Kiwis vs. the Yanks– will kick-off at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday, September 5th and then move on to Yonkers Raceway on Thursday, September 6. The final races will be at Freehold Raceway on Friday, September 7.

“Drivers for the New Zealand team will be constant throughout the series of race. However the USA team will vary at each racetrack with the exception of Dave Siegel, who’ll drive at every venue,” said NAADA president Joe Faraldo.”Various NAADA members at each of the participating racetracks will be getting a chance to compete but Siegel, the gentleman who so cordially hosts our East Coast in the West at Cal Expo, will be a constant.”

According to Eric Warner Monticello Raceway’s director of racing, he will dedicate two races on the September 5th program for the driving competition. The same is expected at all the other venues, also.

Among the members of the visiting New Zealand amateur team is Gavin Cook, who won the World Cup of Amateur Racing in 2008.

Joining Cook will be other outstanding New Zealand amateur drivers; John McDermott, Danny Blakemore and Tim Sissons.

“The Kiwis were extremely gracious to us when they hosted the World Cup of Amateur Racing last fall, so much so, that we wanted to reciprocate,” Faraldo added. “We’ll certainly show them a good time while there here but I’m giving fair warning, there’ll be no favours on the racetrack.”
