Race 5: KOWHAI SUNRISE (8, Ricky May), mob. 2000m: “We couldn’t get into it from the back row in the mile last week but the front row is a help. If she can settle handy she’s a chance.”

Race 6: SMOKE N FIRE (9, Ricky May) & I GET AROUND (10, Blair Orange), mob. 2000m: “The both went good at the Ashburton trials on Tuesday, but Mark Purdon’s ones were a bit too good for us.”

“Some on the front row might have probably got an advantage. I Get Around has three trials and is probably a bit more advanced than Smoke N Fire. It will be interesting to see how they shape up.”

Race 8: ASTRAPI (2, Craig Thornley), 2600m std: “He won down there the last time he raced at Washdyke but he’s been doing things wrong since Blenheim but so take on trust.”
