EXTRA INTER TROT HEAT ANNOUNCED

In a surprise development, Harness Racing Victoria has announced the addition of an extra heat for this week’s Seelite Windows and Doors Inter Dominion Trotting Championship.

The shock revelation coincides with the release of third and final rankings for the iconic series and will mean three preliminaries are run and won at Shepparton this Saturday night (January 21) rather than two.

The move is a genuine gesture of goodwill from the sport’s governing body in this state and will ensure 36 squaregaiters rather than 24 will get their chance at ID glory on February 4 at Melton.

Reigning Inter Dominion king I Can Doosit heads final rankings for the trans Tasman Championship ahead of four-time Australian Grand Prix champion Sundons Gift.

I Didnt Do It (4) and Down Under Muscles (10) are other key Aussies to make the top 10 while Maori Mile winner My Mon Star (30) is one of many to sneak a start as a result of the announcement.

HRV Chief Executive John Anderson revealed his delight at the quality and depth of this year’s contenders and forecast a fitting farewell to the Inter Dominion on Hunter Cup night at Melton.

“This final ever Inter Dominion has brought together an outstanding group of squaregaiters and we are thrilled that an extra dozen horses will get the chance to write their name into history,” he said.

Heats of the Seelite Windows and Doors Inter Dominion series will be run at Shepparton and Ballarat prior to a $250,000 final at Melton’s Tabcorp Park.

Final rankings for the championship are now available at www.harness.org.au
