GOLDEN GIRLS WINTER MARES SERIES

The NZSBA is excited to announce a new nationwide racing series starting mid-May.

The Golden Girls series is a joint venture between HRNZ and NZSBA to provide 4YO and older mares increased opportunities to race and earn that all important black type, prior to the end of the season.

This series will cater for 0 – 1 win with lifetime earnings of $10,000 and 2–4 win pacing mares with lifetime earnings of $40,000. Trotters will also be represented with a 0 – 1 win series with $10,000 lifetime earnings.

The national series will provide 27 additional races this season for mares to compete against their own sex and $217,500 in combined stakes.

NZSBA objectives for the series are:

• increase the racing opportunities for four-year-old or older mares.

• contributing to improving winter racing fields and racing opportunities.

• provide opportunities for mares to earn ‘black type’ prior to the start of the breeding season; and

• provide ‘punters’ with even-field racing to stimulate increased betting with our aim being to average in excess of 11 mares per race.

Clubs involved in this series are: Winton, Invercargill, Forbury Park, Oamaru, Timaru, NZ Metropolitan, Rangiora, Nelson and Cambridge.

The series kicks of in Southland on the 27th May 2012 with the first heats for the 0-1 and 2–4 win golden girls.
