GEO STAR WINS TIMARU MAIDEN
Geo Star credited Overport Lodge junior driver Regan Todd with his second training win when she led virtually throughout to win the Norfolk Motors Pace at the Timaru Harness Racing Club’s meeting on Sunday, September 25, 2011.
Regan, who prepares a small number on his own account, trained his first winner when Del Sur won at Gore on September 7, 2010.
Geo Star, raced by Clemence Drilling Contractors Ltd, was too slick in the run home at Timaru, scoring easily by three-quarters of a length from favourite Four Needed, who finished solidly late.
The Dream Away mare paced the 2000m from a stand in 2:35.5, quickening over her last 80m in 57.9s.
She has a bit going for her on breeding, being a half-sister to good ex-Kiwi Rocket Star, racing on as Ima Rocket Star in West Australia.
Geo Star is from the same family as former open class pacers, Anvil’s Star and Starship (TT, 1:54.5), and also closely-related to former smart mare Crystal Star, a good winner for the Mark Jones stable during her race career.
SHEZONEOFTHEBOYZ WINS IN VICTORIA
Shezoneoftheboyz, last season’s NZ Derby winner for the Mark Jones stable, was untroubled to come off a 40m handicap to win the Cranbourne Light Trotters Handicap at Cranbourne, Victoria, on Saturday night, September 24.
Now racing for owner Peter Chambers from the Craig Demmler stable, Shezoneoftheboyz swept up turning for home for drivr Jodi Quinlan and ran clear to win by 6.8 metres.
The Brylin Boyz mare, a prohibitive $1.60 favourite, rated 2:05.9 for the stand start 2575, the leaders running their last 800m in 59.6s.
Spelled after wining at Tabcorp Park, Melton, on December 17, she resumed with a strong-finishing second at Ballarat on August 27, and has been too good in two subsequent appearances.
