SCOTT SALUTES . . .

Overport Lodge junior driver Scott Stewart gained his first raceday driving win at the dual code Wairarapa fixture on the grass track at Tauherenikau on Monday, January 2, 2012.

Wairarapa-raised Scott, in the north spending the New Year with family and friends, showed a good sense of occasion, landing his first success in front of parents, Wayne And Connie.scott stewart

“It was bloody good to do it on my home track,” he said.

Scott picked up four drives on the four-race harness card at the Wairarapa meeting.

After finishing second with the Peter Scaife-trained Miracle Mach, Scott delivered with another ex-Cantab pacer Helicon, in the second race for the Scaife stable.

In his first season of racedriving, Scott saluted at his 15th racedrive.

He was rewarded with a patient drive on the Dream Away gelding.

After being shuffled back to last of the nine at the 800m, Scott and Helicon tracked up fellow Scaife stablemate Elias Bromac and swooped wide turning for home.

After getting up to Elias Bromac, Scott asked Helicon for a final surge near the line and they did just enough to wear down a Scaife stablemate Elias Bromac by half a head.

Helicon, these days owned by the Foxton trainer, was notching his first win in the north after formerly being prepared at Rangiora by Phillip Vermeulen.
