TELEMECANIQUE RUNS 1:52.1 AT THE MEADOWLANDS
Former Mark Jones-trained mare Telemecanique lowered her mile best to 1:52.1 with a strong effort in snow cooled temperatures at the Meadowlands, New Jersey, on Saturday, January 7.
The Falcon Seelster-Seldom Home mare was recording back-to-back wins in North America since joining the Richard “Nifty” Norman barn.
After being eased back early from her three draw, she improved three wide with cover over the last half for driver David Miller.
Telemecanique stormed down the outside to win going away by two lengths in the $US23,500 pace.
The race was for non-winners of $US22,500 in their last five starts.
* Another smart former Mark Jones-trained filly (Glenferrie) Alexis maintained her good Australian form by winning a $A20,000 mobile 2240m pace at Tabcorp Park, Melton, on Friday night, January 6. The former NZ Oaks placegetter won going away in a 1:57.5 mile rate, the leaders running their last 800m in 55.9s for owner Peter Chambers, trainer Craig Demmler, and driver Jodi Quinlan.
* Meanwhile, fellow ex-Mark Jones pacer Atom Of Courage was narrowly beaten into second in the $A40,000 Maitland Sheet Metal 48th Inter City Pace Final at Maitland, NSW, on Saturday night, January 7. The Courage Under Fire gelding came off the back row for his 1.2m second to Goeslikell.
